It was a very great pleasure to read the article by Sam Sapin, M.D. I have known and respected him for many years.
I, too, left a good practice in New York back in 1971 and began practicing at the Los Angeles Medical Center of Kaiser-Permanente that year. I never regretted that decision. I have been retired since 1993. At Kaiser I was able to practice Internal Medicine without the burdens associated with the current mode of private practice. As a side note, I have had a few patients here in Los Angeles who had been my patients in Brooklyn, and who now reside in Los Angeles.

Hi, Dr. Sapin, our family thinks of you so often and the warm, loving care you gave our firstborn son, Andy. He was six months old in 1976 when you diagnosed his cor triatriatum. He had surgery and was back to his normal bouncey self in no time at all. He has been a wonderful son, teacher, and soon to be the father of twin girls! We will always be thankful for you and Dr. Hildreth, our heroes!

I met Dr. Sapin at a memorial service recently and we shared a very interesting conversation. I'm a KP member and former UCLA student/staff member so we had a lot in common. Loved reading about your former patients. It makes me feel even better about the care I receive at KP. These long-term relationships with doctors are so important. Thanks!

What a wonderful article recognizing Dr. Sapin! I knew him when SCPMG Regional Administration was at the Los Angeles Medical Center. It is good to know that he is doing well. Congratulations on your Newslink [and site "A History of Total Health"].

In reading the article from Dr. Samuel Sapin, MD, I too was a patient of his back in 1968 at the age of 8 years and I am very proud to say what a wonderful doctor he is and the fact that he put my parents at ease in my case. I am currently 49 years old and have be an employee for Kaiser SCPMG for the past 21 years. If it had not been for doctors like him I would not be thriving and leading the healthy life I have today. I am very proud and grateful to work for such an excellent organization. Thank you Dr. Sapin and Kaiser Permanente.

Thank you Dr. Sapin for your very poignant story! It made me feel very proud to work for Kaiser Permanente (I just celebrated my 25th anniversary last week!) and also reinforced my belief that it's important in life to do something that not only capitalizes on your skills, but hopefully leaves the world a better place. I am going to share your story with my 19 year old daughter Caitlin, who is a sophomore at Sonoma State University. As a typical 19 year old, Caitlin has been vacilating between a career as a nurse or a teacher. I keep telling her - don't worry about the salary you make but choose the career that makes you feel that "passion and aha!" and choose a career where you have the opportunity to hopefully make the world a better place. I think she is leaning towards being a teacher last time she and I spoke, but whatever she decides, I will be her biggest cheerleader. Congratulations to you on hearing from your former patients and enjoying your retirement too!
